LISZT Franz (1811-1886).
L.A.S. "F. Liszt", Weimar July 14, 1861, [to Max SEIFRIZ]| 2 1/2 pages in-8 on blue paper| in German.
To composer Max SEIFRIZ (1825-1885), court conductor to the Prince of Hechingen, whose concert cantata Ariadne auf
Naxos was to be performed at the Musikfest der Tonkünstler-Versammlung (Music Festival of the Musicians' Assembly) in Weimar.
Liszt asked Seifriz to send the first part of his Ariadne to Weimar. Unfortunately, Mrs. von Milde [the soprano
Rosa von Milde], who is to sing the title role, is not yet back from Carlsbad - but we can count on her musical intelligence and friendly goodwill ("Frau von Milde welcher ich die Titelparthie zugedacht ist leider noch nicht von Carlsbad zurückgekehrt - doch kann man mit Zuversicht auf Ihre musikalische
Intelligenz und freundliche Bereitwilligkeit rechnen"). As they are pressed for time and will not be able to include the entire work in the program for August 7, Liszt considers the first 3 numbers of the first part to be the most significant for this concert ("halte ich die ersten 3 Nummern des ersten Theils für die dankbarsten zu einer derartigen Conzert-Aufführung"). He begs to recommend it to the dear Prince [of Hechingen]... [On August 7, 1861, the "Concert du troisième festival. Manuscript works by contemporary composers". The first two pieces from the first act of Ariadne auf Naxos were performed, conducted by Max Seifriz, with Emilie Merian-Genast in the title role].
