GAINSBOURG Serge (1928-1991).
Autograph NOTES, [1986]| 1 page in-fol. (42 x 29.5 cm) partly printed.
Answers to the "Proust Questionnaire".
Proof of page 9 of the questionnaire, with extensive autograph corrections and additions. Of the 26 questions on this page, Gainsbourg retouched 18.
Several of the autograph answers bear witness to his taste for provocation. Thus, to the question on a woman's favorite quality, he crossed out the printed answer (Sincerity) to write: "question de muqueuses" (question of mucous membranes)| concerning the favorite occupation, he wrote: "la veuve poignet" (the widow's wrist)| as for the heroines in the story: "celle que l'on sniffe et l'autre qu'on s'injectte" (the one you sniff and the other you inject)| as for the gift of nature you'd like to have, he crossed out the printed answer (Je préfère ne dire pas d'obscénité) to write: "faire caca sans odeurs" (to poop without smells).
He changes the answer on favorite prose authors, to write: "Poe, Huysmans, Joyce, Miller and me". On favorite poets, he crosses out the last word of the printed answer (Picabia. Picabia et moi, which makes two Picabias), replacing it with "Pipicacabiabias".
For the most despised historical figure, he crosses out the name of Eva
Braun and replaces it with "me"... Etc.
