MONET Claude (1840-1926).
L.A.S. "Claude Monet", Zaandam June 17 [1871], to Camille
PISSARRO| 3 1/2 pages in-8.
Beautiful letter about his stay and work in Holland.
He apologizes for not having replied sooner: "I am beginning to be in the heat of work and have little time". He is sorry that
Pissarro goes to so much trouble for him, "and to get nowhere.
I am sorry to give you so much trouble"... He will ask "Durand-Ruel to do me this favor, so that maybe he can fit me in with these damned frames"... Will Pissarro move to Louveciennes?...
"As for us, we're very well settled here, and we'll stay for the summer| afterwards, perhaps I'll come to Paris| for a quarter of an hour, you have to work, and I'm perfectly at home here to paint, it's all the fun you can find, houses of all colors, windmills by the hundreds and delightful boats. The
Dutch people are friendly enough, and almost all speak French.
With all this, the weather is very fine, so I've already got quite a few paintings under way. [...] I haven't had time to visit the museums, I want to work first and I'll treat myself to that afterwards"...
