BELLMER Hans (1902-1975).
L.A.S. "H. Bellmer", Labastide-Denat (Tarn) June 28, 1940, to a gallery owner in Nîmes (Galerie Calendal)| 2 pages in-8.
He thanks him for his help "at a time when all communication with my friends is cut off". He hopes to be able to settle in Ardèche soon, and will send the gallery "a deluxe copy of Les OEillades (selling price 250 frcs)", as well as several drawings, "unfortunately a little damaged" during the disastrous trip, including a study for the portrait of Max ERNST, and "a gouache by Max Ernst (Bellmer collection). It would be a good idea to put my drawings under a neat passepartout (except for the sketch after M.E. and the gouache by M.E., which are not for sale)". He has lost all his luggage, and asks for "a few essential items" from Miss CARRINGTON, with an advance of 2 or 300 F. He also asks René Berger, "a collector and friend from Buenos-Aires", to send him some money... He gives his address at Labastide-Denat, "Détachement du 4e Dépôt d'Artillerie du Mans".
