Since this sale celebrates not only the centenary of the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine, but also the friendship between Victor Tardieu and Jacques Lebas, it's fitting to document their special relationship. These two small panels are a fine material reminder
material reminder of the relationship between the two men, as evidenced by the numerous dinners and meetings mentioned in Jacques Lebas' diaries.
These diaries, kept by his family, allow us to follow the evolution of their relationship. On Monday October 25, 1929, Jacques Lebas wrote "voir M. Tardieu / Ec. Bx. Arts." and four years later, on Monday December 25, 1933, he notes "Déjeuner de Noël / M. Mr. Tardieu / et Louis / à la maison", then, on Saturday December 30, 1933, he writes "Déj. Lê Phổ and Mr. Tardieu at home".
