Royal Chronometer
Gold open face chronometer pocket watch
Building on its reputation as a watchmaker of complicated and precision timepieces, Vacheron Constantin decided to launch a series of chronometer watches in 1907 called "Chronomètre Royal". The name was registered as a trademark on May 28, 1907, then translated the following year into English, on May 8, 1908, as "Royal Chronometer". The principle was simple: a precision instrument for everyday use with an extremely legible dial. This technical watch featured a simple, unfinished gold movement, as shown in our example. This model remained in production until the 1930s, when it was adapted to a wristwatch in 1958.
