BRAILLARD, Chauds-de-Fonds
Swiss National exhibition - Geneva 1896 Gold hunting cased pocket watch with chronograph, minute repeating, perpetual calendar and moon phases which the gold medal at the Swiss National exhibition

The Braillard trademark on the case of this watch was registered in 1897. A year earlier, the same watch had won the gold medal at the Swiss National Exhibition in Geneva. These exhibitions, spurred on by local business associations, were a formidable commercial vehicle for the growth of Swiss watchmaking, the first of which was held in Zurich in 1883, followed by Geneva in 1896. Since then, exhibitions have been held every 25 years to showcase Switzerland's economic dynamism, the last of which took place in 2002. Our example is therefore a very interesting testimony to Swiss watchmaking and its excellence over the centuries, undoubtedly the "cultural exception" of this country that has become the heart of Haute Horlogerie. Also of note is the inscription "Th. Beyer's Sohn Zurich", one of the oldest watch dealers still in business in Zurich.
