These enamelled watches are among the finest horological achievements of the second half of the 19th century. Edouard Juvet is one of the most prestigious names in enamelled watches made for the Chinese market in the second half of the 19th century. Our example features the legend of Titus and Berenice on the back, a classic subject that appears on a few rare Juvet watches. Edouard Juvet (1820-1833) was one of the most eminent watchmakers working for the Chinese market. He settled in Fleurier in 1844. His two sons also worked in the company, setting up counters in Shanghai with branches in Saigon and Tien-Tsin. Leo Juvet wrote in his memoirs that "our watches sell like salt", testifying to the dynamism of the Chinese market as early as the 19th century. In 1873, Edouard Juvet also signed his name in Chinese characters.
