Gilt metal and rock crystal crucifix watch

Crucifix-shaped watches were very popular in the early 17th century. They were copied in the late 19th century, as in our example, which is very sober. Crucifix watches dating from the late 17th century can be found in the finest museum collections in Paris and Geneva. Some are illustrated in Catherine Cardinale's reference work, Les montres et horloges de table du musée du Louvre, Tome II, pages 68 and 78, Réunion des Musées Nationaux.
