Gilt metal and shagreen onion watch with pendulum
Gilles Martinot, a watchmaker during the reign of Louis XIV, was born in 1622. Along with his son Henri, his name was included in the King's household accounts. The dynasty of Martinot watchmakers since Gilbert, first of the name in 1549, is amply illustrated and documented in Tardy's Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, pp. 439-445.
