Pair of Nixing earthenware vases
Baluster-shaped, with incised decoration on the body depicting an old man and a phoenix. Each dated Minguo 19, Gengwu year (1930). The base with the inscription "Qin Zhou Pan Wen Guang Zao" (Qinzhou / Made by Pan Wen Guang). The clay with beautiful metallic reflections.

NOTE
Nixing ceramics originate from the Qinzhou region in Guangxi province. It is made from a mixture of clays sourced from the banks of the Qinjiang River. Pieces are fired at high temperatures and then polished to obtain a smooth surface with a dark brown hue and characteristic blue, gray and black nuances.
