Small in-4, lemon morocco, spine with 5 raised bands, author, title, place and date gilt, caissons decorated with a gilt f leuron and edged with a mosaic listel, boards decorated with a composition forming an architectural frame, with gilt fillets, listel edging and mosaic f loral pieces, gilded stippling at the edges, morocco spandrels decorated with a roulette, 3 fillets and angular f loons, all gilded, ochre moiré satin lining and endpapers, marbled paper second endpaper, gilded head, covers and spines preserved, untrimmed. and spine preserved, untrimmed [Flammarion Vaillant] (spine browned, small tear at head).
Edition illustrated with compositions by Armand Rassenfosse: a frontispiece, color illustrations in the text, ornaments.
Edition of 550 copies: one of the top 50 (no. 35) containing a triple suite of illustrations, including 2 before the letter and in different colors, and an original pencil sketch by Rassenfosse enhanced with watercolor.
