LOBEL-RICHE. RENARD (Jules).
Poil de Carotte. Paris, Libr. de la Collection des Dix - A. Romagnol, 1911. Large volume in-8, 282-[1] p., plates, mid-twentieth-century havana half-maroquin with corners, spine with 4 bands, gilt title and author, gilt head, cover and spine preserved (spine very slightly faded, small rub on one corner).
Edition illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and 51 self-engraved compositions by Lobel-Riche, 14 of which are full-page. The intaglio plates were printed in Paris by A. Porcabeuf. "Very fine, highly-rated publication, which deserves even more attention, as it proves that, even without color, a highly talented engraver like Lobel-Riche is capable of giving every satisfaction with the original etching in black." (Carteret)
Limited edition of 350 copies: one of 150 copies reprinted in-8° jesus on Japon paper or Van Gelder Zonen vellum (this one no. 28 on Japon). It contains three states of the etchings, the pure etching, the finished state with remarks, and the finished state with the letter for the headpieces and before the letter for the hors-texte.
A fine copy with wide margins. (Carteret, Illustrés 1875-1945, IV, p. 338).
