In-4, blue morocco, 5-ribbed spine, author, title, place and date gilt, ornate caissons, boards framed with fillets and wide lace, with figures of roast chickens in angular f loons, all gilt, double gilt fillet at the edges, gray morocco lining decorated with a frame of multiple fillets and a wide roulette, all gilt, f loral patterned cloth endpapers, covers and spine preserved, edges gilt, case [Blanchetière]. and spine, gilt edges, case [Blanchetière] (nerves faded and a little rubbed, case rubbed).
Edition illustrated with a portrait and 176 compositions, some of which hors-texte in 2 tones, after Auguste Leroux, wood-engraved by Duplessis, Ernest Florian, Froment, Gusman and Perrichon. Text handsomely printed by Imprimerie Nationale in italic Garamond.
Limited edition of 444 copies: one of 47 on strong China paper (no. 32). Bound prospectus at end.
