[DRAWING]. PAUL VAYSON (1842-1911).
Album of original drawings and sketches in charcoal and graphite, some in ink. Oblong folio, contemporary brown half-chagrin, 5-ribbed spine, double gilt fillet around edges and boards, gilt initials "H.F." on upper board (rubbed headbands, dull corners).
Splendid, unique album featuring 63 original works by Gordes-born painter Paul Vayson, recognized as one of the leading Provencal painters of his time, particularly appreciated as an animal painter. Landscapes, animals, pastoral scenes from various regions, most of these pieces have been localized or titled by the artist| some are signed with his initials.
The pieces vary in size, 9 of them measuring approx. 27 x 36 cm| 3 drawings are in watercolor, including 2 on the r° and v° of the same cardboard.
This collection was a gift from the artist to his friend, the painter Henri Ferrier (1839-1920), who lived in Prémery in the Nièvre region, with a handsome autograph ex-dono dated July 4, 1909, in which he recalls their friendship and shared youth, and specifies that "most [of these drawings] date from that period, some of them done at your side...".
Attached is a paperback notice on Paul Vayson by Jules Belleudy, taken from Revue du Midi, Nîmes, 1910.
