He thanks Steggall for the poem he has sent him: "I take equal pleasure in seeing an Englishman write a poem in honor of Joan of Arc as I do in seeing the effigy of the captive of St. Helena decorate the chests of the finest officers in the English army. These two facts show that international hatreds have ceased to exist between our two countries, and that what is beautiful and great in the one is appreciated in the other at its just value"...
