SAND George (1804-1876).
L.A.S.
"George Sand", Nohant October 11, 1855, to Prosper VIALON| 3 pages in-8 in blue ink, envelope.
She apologizes for her silence: "I've just come back from Paris, I've been so busy that I've always put off until the next day to thank you both for your good memories [...] You can't imagine how little time I have, even to write three lines without going blind after the inevitable task of the day. This makes me very sullen, against my intention and against my character, which would so willingly indulge in gentle leisure and sympathetic relationships. Believe me that I appreciate better than I know how to express and than I can prove, the one that has formed between us, and that I wish you all the success and satisfaction due to your talent. I hope you work with pleasure and courage. It's a great element, I won't say of happiness, but of reassurance in the things of life. All that is the material side, the publication, the profit to be made from work, here is the odious thing and the nest of disappointments, but the hours when the spirit creates are sweet, and if artists were not forced to pay for them by immense annoyances, they would be better shared than it is allowed to be in this world"...
