Beautiful letter while Jean Maris is mobilized| Cocteau discusses his play Le Bel Indifférent, premiered by Édith PIAF at the Bouffes Parisiens. "Mon Jeannot I know now the evil I suffer from and drag along: it's you. It's living without you. I look for you everywhere like a poor blind dog, and I lie down for a minute. I get up and look for you elsewhere. Living without you is atrocious. It's a torment I didn't realize I was in until it was prolonged. If the good Lord doesn't help me, I'll die". He nurses himself back to health, and hopes to find Jeannot in Tilloloy. "What's happening with Piaf is very strange. It's a kind of silent struggle between this piece and the public - but there's no failure - far from it. I'd feel otherwise. No... It's a stupor and as if they were running away after sticking their eye to a keyhole. Looking for as little noise as possible".
