The Mercedes 190 SL was presented at the 1954 New York Motor Show, with the aim of offering a robust, elegant roadster at a much lower price than the legendary 300 SL, on which it was based.
Driven by a tried-and-tested powertrain common to other models in the range, the 190 SL is a comfortable car for everyday use; the 1.9-liter, 4-cylinder engine develops 105 hp, enabling it to reach speeds of up to 170 km/h.
The build quality is exemplary, and the public praises its smooth ride, as a result, it met with commercial success in both Europe and the United States; between 1955 and 1963, some 26,000 examples were built.
Our American example has recently been fully restored in the spirit of the Tourensportwagen competition version : the windscreen has been replaced by windshields, the bumpers removed and the doors given a more scalloped shape; it also received rollover bars and leather bucket seats.
The entire powertrain has been overhauled, and the engine bay looks very good indeed; only a few details remain to be completed before you can enjoy this stunning 190 SL.
