The Ponton range heralded Mercedes-Benz’s move into the modern era, with a new body design featuring integrated wings|
the 220 S version was the most expensive model, with its inline 6-cylinder engine replacing the 4-cylinder engines of the
lower ranges.
Two additional versions were quickly added to the catalogue: a Cabriolet, then a Coupé on the same base, shorter than the
saloon| these two versions only remained in the catalogue for 3 years, and only 1,251 examples of the Coupé and 2,178 of the Cabriolet were produced.
The quality of the work is very impressive: the paintwork is well done, the upholstery is of good quality, the woodwork is new...
Mechanically speaking, the car also appears to have benefited from extensive work, but has been out of service for many years: a general check and a complete overhaul are therefore to be envisaged.
Completely restored examples of the 220 S Coupé are selling for around €60,000... With an estimate like that, this is the ideal
toy to work with this winter!
“A great restoration project to complete, at an affordable price!”
