The early 1950s at Mercedes-Benz saw the arrival of the ‘Pontoon’ line, which would remain their DNA for several more years and would see the creation of some of the most important models in the firm’s history!
In 1954, Daimler-Benz filled the gap between their 4-cylinder models and the 300 moguls with the introduction of the 220,
a 6-cylinder saloon aimed at a middle-class clientele; the car was an immediate success due to its high quality compared with its competitors of the time.
Our example was apparently delivered new to the United States, which it left in the early 2000s, and was part of the second phase of the 220 ‘W180’, called the 220 S, which included an increase in engine power to 100 hp.
Today, this car presents itself to us with a sound body and nicely patinated upholstery; immobilised for a few years, the mechanics will need to be overhauled before taking to the road again.
With such an appealing valuation, this very attractive base vehicle is the ideal entry ticket for a collector wishing to take his first steps into the world of Mercedes!
“An interesting Mercedes-Benz saloon at a very reasonable price”
