ALIX AYMÉ (1894 - 1989)
Meules de foin aux abords d'un village
Laquer with gold highlights, signed lower right
38 x 46,2 cm - 15 x 17 in.

In this particular work, Alix Aymé depicts a rural landscape with recently harvested fields and, in the distance, a bell tower and its village.
Although the subject is not typically Vietnamese, the artist uses a technique she developed during her long stay in Asia, and manages to incorporate elements characteristic of the French Post-Impressionists, such as haystacks or bales, which are indeed recurring subjects among Impressionists and Post-Impressionists such as Monet, Sisley and Gauguin.
