with turned wood core trimmed with embossed leather and decorated with foliate scrolls. The dome-shaped lid ends in a knob.
Two side loops. Gilding.
France or Italy, 16th century.

Often described as a pyxis box, these objects with their undeniable liturgical function appear to be pyxes in themselves. The interior behaves like an autonomous hermetic box, with contours that are quite different from the outer shape, particularly at the top of the knob.
