Suzuribako in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirigane lacquer on a black background and shades of gold lacquer, decorated with a rider and his galloping mount, dressed in hunting costume from the Heian period. The reverse side of the lid is decorated with a composition of a rider wearing a kanmuri robe, sword and headdress on a nashiji background.
The inside of the box decorated with aoi leaves on a nashiji background, with an ink stone, brush compartments and suiteki location.
