CHINE DE COMMANDE DYNASTIE QING, ÉPOQUE DAOGUANG (1820 - 1850)
Canton porcelain cup and saucer decorated with polychrome enamels and gold highlights, featuring figures in interiors and gardens. The inside of the cup with an inscription in Dutch: "Koninglyke Marine J C J Van Speyk 5 Febv 1831 Voor Vaterland &| Vorst". The base of the cup and saucer with a six-character Daoguang Shizhu Nianzhi mark in black on glaze.

NOTE
Jan van Speyk was a hero of the Dutch nation, a lieutenant in the Royal Navy who served in the Dutch East Indies between 1823 and 1825. He died on February 5, 1831, during the Belgian War of Independence, refusing to surrender to the enemy and blowing up his ship.
