1956 ALFA ROMEO 1900 C Super Sprint - Lot 19
1956 ALFA ROMEO 1900 C Super Sprint Belgian registration title Elegant lines and Touring aluminium bodywork, Superleggera process Rare model, less than 200 surviving examples High quality restoration and fully documented history, Alfa Romeo Heritage certificate Delivered new in Switzerland, equipped with Nardi floor shifter and Borrani spoke wheels Model sought after for its great driving qualities and eligible for the most important historical events such as the 1000 Miglia and the Tour Auto The CSS is known as one of the most elegant and attractive models of the 1900 series. It must be said that Carrozzeria Touring has achieved one of the most beautiful styling exercises in its history. The 1900 honours the history of the brand and its sporting heritage with a double overhead cam engine developing 90 hp. In June 1954, it became a Super Sprint with an increased displacement (1,975 cc) and 115 hp. With its aluminium bodywork, 190 km/h were reached and it was not long before the coupé appeared in top-level competitions. Of the 949 Sprint and 854 Super Sprint cars built, it is estimated that only 200 survive today... Our example was delivered new to Switzerland before arriving in France in the 1970s, in the hands of a certain Mr Durieux. In 2003, the car is back in Belgium where it will benefit from an important restoration with a complete body stripping, before receiving a two-tone Azzuro Verde Oceano paint with dark green roof and matching interior. The car is also fitted with a Nardi floor shifter and superb Borrani wire wheels. This rare Alfa Romeo is aesthetically in near perfect condition and is ready to participate in any historic event starting with the Tour Auto or the much sought after 1000 Miglia. This beautiful Alfa is sold with its Belgian registration papers, its original French registration (cancelled) dated 1971, copies of old photographs, various invoices for parts and work carried out and a huge file with notes and correspondence relating to the restoration, parts, etc. A recent service includes some work on the car. A recent review includes work on the gearbox at Janssens near Brussels (€3,740). The fine chrome bumpers are removed, but will be given to the buyer to choose the configuration he prefers.
