LÊ PHỔ (1907-2001)
Les deux soeurs
Oil on silk mounted on hardboard, signed lower right
73.5 x 50.1 cm - 29 x 19 3/4 in.

A brilliant student of the first class of the Indochina School of Fine Arts, Lê Phổ has continued to perfect his brushstroke over the years. His discovery of the Impressionists in France in the 1930s brought to his work a colorful and joyful palette that he did not have in his first period. Yellow, orange, red, green, pink bloom like buds in flower. His lively and
spontaneous touch brings this composition to life while the use of oil allows for a more ample creative gesture. Realized on a large format, the artist’s creativity can express itself
and encourages the full use of the medium.
