PROUST Marcel (1871 - 1922)
L.A.S. "Marcel", [Versailles September 1906], to Count Georges de LAURIS| 4 pages in-8 (mourning).
Friendly letter to one of the models of Robert de Saint-Loup's character.
He expresses his sorrow to learn that the mother of his friend "is still suffering, eating so badly, still weakening and that you do not see the end of this crisis perhaps before twelve days. What a supply of courage you need to wait for that moment! Bring up your mother, your father, whom I think of a lot too and who must be quite dismantled".
Then he invites Lauris to join Robert de Billy and Berckheim who are coming to dinner on Thursday at his house, "which will be a real strain for me, if not more [...] I think that Berckheim has an automobile, which would perhaps make the journey less unpleasant for you, if he can bring you. If I were too ill, I would telegraph them, but if they come, would you like that? They will distract you better than me from your sad thoughts"...
Correspondence, t. VI, n° 116.
Attached is the poster for the Marcel Proust exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale in 1965 (55,5 x 45 cm).
