Battle of Moskowa or Borodino.
From the heights of Borodino September 8. "My Cousin, yesterday there was a great Battle at Borodino. The Enemy had about 120,000 men, commanded by Koutouzow, Barclay de Tolly and Bagration. The battle was very hot. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the victory was declared for us. We took 60 guns and made 4 to 5000 prisoners, including several Generals. The loss of the enemy is estimated at about 30,000 men, ours can be estimated at 10,000 killed or wounded. The
Gal Montbrun was killed at the head of a cavalry division| having sent the Gal Caulaincourt, my Governor of the Pages, to replace him, the latter was killed in the battery which he had just taken. The King of Naples [Murat], the Vice King [Eugène], the Prince of Neufchtel [Berthier], all the marshals are doing well.
