Paris 7 nivose. "I leave tomorrow, citizen Consul, at six o'clock in the morning for Boulogne. I will be here in the opening of the Legislative Body"...He adds in his hand: "write me every evening".
Etaples 10 nivose. "I write to the citizen FLEURIEU so that he takes the portfolio [of the Navy]. I arrived yesterday morning at Étaples from where I am writing to you in my barrack. The wind is from the southwest and is frightful. This country looks very much like the land of Aeolus. I am going up right now to go to Boulogne by the foreshore.'

I am going to leave to make a run to Ambleteuse, Wimereux, perhaps I will even go as far as Calais. I am doing very well. The weather is beginning to improve. Two small boats with a crew of three men were taken by an English cutter, and a gunboat with twelve soldiers on board, having been lowered by the courans, fought for an hour against a large English corvette.
