"Bonaparte", Ghent 26 and 28 messidor XI (15 and 17 July 1803), to Consul CAMBACÉRÈS| the letters are written by Méneval| 1 page and a quarter and 1 page in-4, engraved vignettes with the name of Bonaparte I Consul of the Republic. [111, 112] 26 messidor. He "arrived yesterday in Ghent at 6 o'clock in the evening. I will stay here three days, I intend to stay as much in Antwerp, after which I will leave for Brussels. The city made yesterday an illumination which seemed to me very well ".
He answered Admiral Truguet: "I think it is appropriate that he leaves for Brest.
It is not enough to have ships, it is necessary that the one who commands them| makes them maneuver, puts his flag on a ship of war, makes remain all the people on board, & remains there himself to give the example, makes sail every day, and prevents the desertion of the crew by his immediate monitoring"... 28 Messidor. Commerce in the middle of the main square of Ghent. I went today in great pomp to hear the mass in the Cathedral of Ghent. I will leave tomorrow morning for Antwerp"...
