"Bonaparte", Ghent 26 and 28 messidor XI (15 and 17 July 1803), to Consul CAMBACÉRÈS| the letters are written by Méneval| 1 page and a quarter and 1 page in-4, engraved vignettes with the name of Bonaparte I Consul of the Republic. [111, 112] 26 messidor. He "arrived yesterday in Ghent at 6 o'clock in the evening. I will stay here three days, I intend to stay as much in Antwerp, after which I will leave for Brussels. The city made yesterday an illumination which seemed to me very well ".
He answered Admiral Truguet: "I think it is appropriate that he leaves for Brest.
It is not enough to have ships, it is necessary that the one who commands them| makes them maneuver, puts his flag on a ship of war, makes remain all the people on board, & remains there himself to give the example, makes sail every day, and prevents the desertion of the crew by his immediate monitoring"... 28 Messidor. "I was yesterday at a very nice party given to me by
Commerce in the middle of the main square of Ghent. I went today in great pomp to hear the mass in the Cathedral of Ghent. I will leave tomorrow morning for Antwerp"...
