"I arrive in Lyon, Citizens Consuls. I stop there to lay the first stone of the facades of the place Bellecour that we are going to restore. This only circumstance could delay my arrival in Paris. But I did not hold on to the ambition of accelerating the restoration of this place that I saw so beautiful and which is today so hideous. I am made to hope that in two years it will be entirely completed. I hope that before that time the trade of this city, which was the pride of all Europe, will have resumed its first prosperity"...
