Very fine Melayer (Persia) late nineteenth early twentieth century. Velvet in silky lambswool of quality on cotton foundations. Density of about 9,000 knots per dm2. Remarkable fineness. Good general condition. Decorated with double octagonal medallions midnight blue inlaid with a thousand botehs ivory and old rose (symbol of genesis and fertility, the seed motif found in shawls cashmere) stylized in the form of diamonds, on a beige background with original decoration of floral bulbs in the form of stylized turtle shells geometrically inlaid with floral petals. Fine border with floral buds.
