WAGNER Richard (1813 - 1883)
L.A.S. "R. Wagner", [Bayreuth April-May 1872?, probably to Carl VOLTZ in Wiesbaden]| 1 page in-8| in German.
He wants to know if Weber still wants to print the 2nd edition [of the libretto of
Rheingold]| but he wants this edition to be without preface, without alterations, and in any case also without portrait nor the affluent engravings of Pixis: "ohne Vorwort, ohne Aenderung, und jedenfalls auch ohne Portrait u. Stahlstiche von Pixis (welche mir widerwärtig sind)". He asks for a quick answer, since the fifth volume of his writings, at the end of which the Rheingold appears, will soon be published. Diener [Franz DIENER (1849-1879), baritone-tenor] must be urged to follow the advice given to him by Wagner, who foresees the ruin of his voice if he wants to become a repertory singer, after which he will no longer be able to use it! "Ermahnen Sie Diener, meinem Rathe zu folgen: ich sehe in grösster Schnelligkeit den Ruin seiner Stimme voraus, wenn er Repertoirsänger werden will, wornach ich ihn dann nicht brauchen könnte!" He also wants to know how if the copy of the Nibelungen scores, started by Schott three quarters ago, will be ready for the performance....
