Instrumentationslehre, a German edition of BERLIOZ's Grand Traité d'instrumentation et d'orchestration modernes]
Given the monumental character of Berlioz's work, it is not necessary to mention every little detail that has enriched the art of instrumentation during the last five years. Strauss's most recent works, like those of Bruckner, Mahler and Pfi tzner, contain nothing that would add significantly to the edition, which he suggests be reprinted without any changes.
"Bei dem monumentalen Charakter des Berliozschen Werkes ist es nicht nötig, jedes kleine Detail zu erwähnen, um das sich die
Instrumentationskunst seit etwa 5 Jahren etwa bereichert. Meine neueren Werke, sowie die von Bruckner, Mahler u. Pfi tzner enthalten nichts, was unsere Ausgabe wesentlich ergänzen würde. Darum möchte ich ergebenst vorschlagen, den Neudruck unverändert zu besorgen"....
