Belle correspondance au jeune chef d'orchestre, au sujet d'une «Soirée de Paris» du comte de Beaumont, pour laquelle, renonçant à une reprise de La Belle Excentrique, il va composer le ballet Mercure, alors qu'il est brouillé avec ses anciens amis du Groupe des Six. 7 février. Il ignore qui est Mme Bériza. «Je ne connais que trois chefs d'orchestre : Caplet, Golschmann & Désormière... Paray ?... je ne veux pas le connaître... Je ne suis ni Poulenc, ni Auric»... 16 février. «Très content que ce soit vous qui conduisiez le “truc” Beaumont. En eff et, Caryathis est encore propriétaire de la Belle Excentrique, mais Auric a peut-être tort de me rejeter de cette combinaison : je compte écrire deux petites choses en collaboration avec TZARA. Oui. [...] j'ai le droit de donner la Belle Excentrique en morceau symphonique, ce qu'Auric sait bien mais ne dit pas»... 26 février. «Je travaille pour vous : laissez-moi, toutefois, le temps de composer ce que j'ai à faire. [...] Pour la Belle Excentrique, ne vous en “faites pas” : aussitôt que Caryathis sera revenue du Midi, j'aurai le matériel complet»...
