RAVEL Maurice (1875 - 1937)
L.A.S. "Maurice Ravel", Megève January 22, 1919, to G. JEAN-AUBRY| 4 pages in-8, envelope.
Convalescence in Megève.
"I have been here for nearly a month. It took me some time to acclimate to the altitude and the cold, but it's done. Besides, the sun is brighter than anywhere else. I like the snow: it's nice| you can sink into it up to your knees. So far, I have not noticed any improvement in my condition.
I sleep badly. I had started some short walks. I even did a little sledding - with a few logs, but it's padded -. I have to resume the calves' favorite sport. God knows how long I will have to stay here! - if they don't send me higher up again. And we are so far away, so isolated. No doctor - there is one every Friday - no pharmacist. I will have to go by sled to
Sallanches or St Gervais - and sleep there - to get my hair cut. The newspapers themselves can't climb every day - I don't care| I don't read them"...
