About the purchase of Beethoven's manuscripts.
[Theodor Oswald WEIGER (1812-1881) was a Leipzig publisher| he sold Mendelssohn a score and sketches by Beethoven from the heirs of a certain L. Schumann]
He confirms that he is willing to pay the agreed sum of 25 gold louis for the two sets of Beethoven's manuscripts that he saw on Weigel's desk. His means do not allow him to offer more, and he will give up the purchase if the owners change their minds about these conditions... "erwiedre ich auf Ihr geehrtes gestriges Schreiben daß ich bereit bin für die beiden Convolute von Manuscripten Beethovens welche ich neulich auf Ihrem Comptoir sah die geforderte Summe von 25 Louis d'or zu zahlen. Einen höheren Preis zu geben würden mir allerdings meine
Mittel nicht erlauben und würde ich vom Kaufe abstehen müssen, wenn die Besitzer über diese Bedingungen andern Sinnes würden. Doch hoffe ich dies um so weniger, als Sie mir dieselben ja in ihnem Ihrem Namen mitgetheilt haben und als ich demnach wohl bestimmt annehmen kann, daß es dabei bleibt"...
