FAURÉ Gabriel (1845 - 1924)
L.A.S. "Gabriel Fauré", [Paris] 32 Rue des Vignes October 31, 1922, [to Reynaldo HAHN]| 1 1/2 pages in-4
About the manuscript of one of his very first early melodies.
"This copy of Le Papillon et la Fleur makes me happy. It is indeed my handwriting from my time at Niedermeyer's| and it is very likely that the pied-nez of the Papillon is by Saint-Saëns. But what can be the history of this manuscript?... And the vocal couplets without the accompaniment... what date? You made me a pleasure of which I cannot thank you enough". He is asked by his friends Gremy to invite Hahn to come and hear a Spanish singer, "a baritone in the process of becoming a tenor. He will grow up.... Etc." Bronchitis keeps him in his room... "I see that you have orchestrated Latin Studies. It seems to me an excellent idea that you will have to congratulate yourself on, I am sure."...
