L.A.S. "L. Pasteur", Arbois (Jura) September 2, 1885, to Mr. SARRADON, wine merchant in Gray| 2 pages in-8 (photograph attached).
About his research on rabies.
Both contravene the law of July 21, 1881 on sanitary police.
"Any dog bitten, or only suspected of having been bitten by a rabid dog, must be put down. I may have treated your dog to make it resistant to rabies, as veterinary schools are permitted to experiment on any dog, but, under the law, your dog on entering my laboratory was legally dead and I had no right to return it to you alive. I hope that an amendment can be made to the law, but a new law will be necessary. The mayor of Gray must demand that the dog be put down.
