"I have just received, M.T.C.F., the printed copies of my notice to the people.
I am sending you two copies and I beg you to consult with
Cadet, if giving publicity to it may result in some advantage for the public good. Fermentation seems to me to have subsided| this writing can make it rise from its ashes and perpetuate dissensions that it is of general interest to dull and distract in the forgetfulness. Moreover, now that I am more cold-blooded than at the time when I was writing and my head was heated, I find that this writing is becoming as much and more of an impediment to my adversaries as my own justification. It seems to me wiser and more patriotic to keep silence if some new event does not put me in the necessity to break it. Thus I close my justification preciously to condemn it to silence.
