In the middle of the 1960’s, the famous motorbike racer Georges Monneret organises a promotion formula to detect young riders. Called Jeunes Tigres, the operation was - as its name suggests - financed by the oil company Esso. The idea is to give the young riders a motorbike and equipment, identical for all, for a reasonable budget. The bikes chosen were 50 cc Mondial bikes, renamed «Special Monneret» for the occasion, which differed from the standard Italian model in that they had a Campagnolo front disc brake… with cable. The races of the Young Tigers took place on different circuits in France and saw some great names taking the start, among which Jean-Claude Chemarin, Olivier Chevallier, René Guilli, Gérard Debrock... The Mondial Monneret that we are presenting has a singular history, since it was given to Mr B.’s father, a racing mechanic, by the racing driver and designer of the eponymous compressor Alexis Constantin. According to the latter, it took part in the Jeunes Tigres operation. This legendary cyclosport is in incredible original condition, complete with all its accessories (except for the toolbox, which was removed during races), and a few drops of mixture poured into its carburettor were enough to start it... Two tyres and a box of parts will be sold with the bike.
