He has been in the country for a long time and will return to Paris on 5 or 6 January. "I will go and see the numerous studies you must have made since the time I have not seen you, certain to find further progress. I think I shall find you in good health as well as your father and mother. I shall go and make amends for my long absence. He sends his wishes, and says no more: "I prefer to cause than to write". He adds: "I cannot go back now because of a tooth flux, which is blocking my eye and making me suffer a lot".
