He is ashamed not to have thanked him earlier for sending his book: "I have no other excuse than my old age and hard work, which makes me forget all my duties [...] believe in my deepest sympathy, for I had already read your book, Gens de mer, and for which I am happy to congratulate you. He would be happy to have his visit, but in "3 or 4 weeks, being in the grip of a considerable work which absorbs all my time"... [Emmanuel BOURCIER (1880-1955), journalist and novelist, had published his novel Les Gens de mer in 1919].
