Corrected proofs of Bonheur by Paul Verlaine, the cover is titled in watercolour and bears the edition's mentions.
A list of Verlaine's poetic works in green ink appears opposite the title page. Numerous autograph corrections and indications for the printer.
Attached is an important autograph letter signed by Paul Verlaine to the publisher Léon Vanier, a formidable letter concerning Bonheur, 4 pages in-12 in ink.
... "As for Bonheur, let us speak little and speak well and especially frankly." ... "Now Vanier is offering me 500 francs, such as it is, and you would like to see me grow, grow unceasingly, forgetting that gravity has never proved anything, especially in a volume of serious verse, one of the verses with which one can afford as well, typographical artifi ces" ...
I think it is in our interest as to shoot more or less in the open and frank! For prankster! My books are selling well and it would be nice if they could give me a small income while making your fortune, for God's sake!
