"For this is the last of this series, perhaps definitely the last, and I believed, even though it would not exist, that this chronicle would be written in order to fill a small program of impressions, not at all socialist as is fashionable, nor especially anarchist, a silly word badly borrowed from the great Proudhon of yesteryear by amiable but insufficient young people.
One of the chronicles Verlaine wrote during his successive stays at the Broussais Hospital.
The hospital chronicles would appear in Mes hôpitaux, published by
Vanier in 1891.
