Set of nine autograph letters signed to his German translator Auguste BERTUCH, Maillane from April 4, 1889 to August 29, 1893| 31 pages in-12 (178 x 114 mm) in black ink on 9 double sheets of laid paper. Typographer's pencil and perforation in the upper part of the first leaf of 4 of the letters in this set.
Interesting correspondence about the German translations of the Provençal poems Nerto and then Mireio, in which Mistral gives his explanation of the word Félibre.
The letters that make up this set were written in Maillane, Frédéric Mistral's native village and where he spent his entire life, near Saint-Remy de Provence. They are addressed to Auguste Bertuch, a German novelist, and relate the professional relationship between him and Mistral, from the project of translation of the poem Nerto, to the publication of the German translation of Mireio (Mireille) 4 years later.
In a letter of December 1889, Mistral anticipates the musical adaptation of his poem Nerto and looks forward to the publication of the German translation of this poem: "it would be necessary to take care of the publication of your work now, because the setting of Nerto in an opera will soon bring this poem back to the forefront".
In November 1890, Mistral receives the translation of Nerto in its German edition, with which he is very satisfied. From 1891 onwards, Bertuch began to work on Mireio, the first great epic poem written in Provençal by Mistral.
