Early version of two passages from chapter 3 ("Les votes") of book
VII ("Féodalité et Révolution") of the third part ("En Vendée") of the novel Quatre-vingt-treize published in 1874. Hugo crossed them out, indicating that he had used them:
- "...your defence? - I add that, being the leader, I had to set an example, and that, in your turn, you owe it to me| - What example are you asking for? - My death.
- Do you think it is just? - And necessary. - Sit down. We proceeded to yours. 1st. Guéchamp. - Death| 2nd. Radoub. - Life."
