If Victor Tardieu - the founder of the Indochina School of Fine Arts - was able to detect very quickly the undeniable talent of Lê Phổ, the artist showed an unprecedented and innovative talent throughout his career. Making the genre of still life one of his favorite, he never stopped renewing its artistic treatment. Bouquet aux dahlias roses, is one of those works where the artist transcends the precepts received during his training. Adopting a larger scale, Lê Phổ asserts himself. The brushstroke becomes wider and thicker, while the flat tints no longer blend together offering a less polished composition. The line is set free in a spontaneous gesture and the colors bloom dominated by a bright yellow. Through the treatment of a typical theme of his corpus, the artist manages to demonstrate the extent of his talent by offering a perpetual renewal of his painting.
