Marcel Pourtout created his workshop in Bougival in 1925, his work was very successful and in 1928 he had to enlarge his structure. In 1936, the body shop moved to Rueil-Malmaison and established itself in the former workshops of the Hurtu factory. This vast space will allow the production of small series of vehicles while continuing to make models to the unit. The workshop will produce numerous bodies based on Lancia Belna or Ardennes. It was also entrusted with the production of the famous 402 Darl'Mat, designed by Paulin. Finally, there are many creations based on prestigious brands such as Bugatti, Delhaye, Hispano-Suiza or Delage, the most famous of which is certainly the Coach D8-120 S. The car we are presenting is a Lancia Ardennes, the Ardennes are actually Aprilias that were manufactured in the French factory of Bonneuil-sur-Marne. Our example was originally a cabriolet bodied by Pourtout between 1937 and 1938. According to the coachbuilder's register, this car, bearing the order number 1542, left his workshop on January 3, 1938. It was then delivered to the Lancia garage in Lille. At that time, it was painted in a solid blue with a blue leather interior and a matching soft top. A first series of 10 convertibles was built (order number 1542 to 1551), its reference number 1542 makes this chassis the second Ardennes convertible built by Pourtout and the first of the series after the prototype exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 1937. In the end, Pourtout built 32 Lancia Ardennes as convertibles, three as interiors and only one as a coupé. Our example is now presented as a coach, so its bodywork has certainly been modified later. This car was discovered in the Indre region of France by its former owner in the early 90s. Its condition required a complete restoration that will last several years. The car will be completely dismantled before receiving a new red paint. The owner, a saddler by trade, did the interior himself in brown leatherette. The engine was replaced by a V4 tipo 99, more flexible than the original tipo 97. The current owner bought the car in 2010 and did some work on it, recently the car received a complete paint job, a new battery and 4 new tires. In 2017, this Lancia was exhibited at Chantilly Art et Elegance where the coachbuilder Pourtout was honored by the organizers. Our car had a tumultuous life but its origins make it a rare and desirable car. Its new owner is free to respect its history or to give it back its original configuration.
